Slow growth isn't a systems problem, it's misalignment. That sentence is the closest thing I have to a personal manifesto, and it's the reason I started Cogent Connective.

I'm Daryl Michel. We're a HubSpot Solutions Partner based in Perth, Scotland, and we work with distribution, wholesale, and manufacturing teams that want HubSpot to do real work, not sit there as another tab nobody opens. This is a quick introduction to what we do, who we help, and the way we think.

Who we help

Most of our clients sell things. Lots of them. Quotes go out by the hundred. Orders flow through an ERP. Finance, sales, and customer service all touch the same record but rarely from the same angle. When the tools don't agree, the team makes up the difference manually. That's the moment a HubSpot project becomes urgent.

We work best with teams that have outgrown the spreadsheet stage but haven't yet wired their systems together. Distribution and manufacturing run on connected data: products, customers, inventory, deal stages, payment terms. When HubSpot is plugged into that reality properly, sales gets faster and finance stops chasing.

How we think about HubSpot

We have a framework for it called the APPS Principle, aligning People, Processes, and Systems. It's not a clever acronym for the sake of it. The order matters. Most failed HubSpot rollouts buy the system first, write the process second, and never get to the people. We do it the other way round.

In practice that means we start with conversations, not configuration. Who owns the deal at each stage. What numbers leadership actually looks at on Monday morning. Which document goes out at which signal. Once those answers are written down, the HubSpot build is straightforward, and the team adopts it because it reflects the way they already work.

Where Portant fits

Documents are downstream of data. That's why we leave them out of HubSpot conversations until the data is clean, and then bring them in fast. Portant is the layer we use because it reads from the same fields HubSpot already trusts. Quotes, contracts, proposals, all generated from the deal record, all saved back to the timeline. No new sources of truth, no extra logins for sales reps. It's the simplest way to close the loop between "we agreed this" and "we sent this."

Where to find us

If your team is rebuilding the same quote three times a week, or your leadership can't get a clean answer to "how much did we send last quarter," that's a misalignment problem dressed up as a tooling problem. We can help.

You can find Cogent Connective at cogentconnective.com. If you want to see what the document layer looks like inside HubSpot first, the Portant + HubSpot integration page walks through it in product terms.

Make growth make sense. That's the job.
