PandaDoc's MCP server lets Claude and ChatGPT create documents from your templates, send them and check who signed. It is a strong fit for proposals. It is a weak fit for a document your assistant drafts from scratch, and that gap is the most common reason people look for an alternative.

I work at Portant, and we run a competing e-signature MCP server, so weigh the ranking with that in mind. Every PandaDoc fact here comes from PandaDoc's own developer docs, support pages and public setup guide as published in October 2026.

The short answer: Sign PDF by Portant is the best PandaDoc MCP alternative for getting a document your assistant wrote signed, because it accepts Markdown with no template and is free for 30 requests a month. Teams that already run Docusign should use the Docusign MCP server, and teams that need more than five signers in order should look at signNow.

What the PandaDoc MCP server does

  • Where it runs: https://mcp.pandadoc.com/v1/mcp, or https://mcp.pandadoc.eu/v1/mcp for EU workspaces. Each server sees only its own region's documents.
  • Sign-in: OAuth. You pick the workspace and the access you grant.
  • Assistants: listed in the Claude connector directory, with a PandaDoc app in ChatGPT. PandaDoc's guide also covers Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Cline and Gemini CLI.
  • Tools: list and read templates, create documents, send them, read status, details, content and the audit trail, and assign fields.
  • Cost: PandaDoc says MCP access costs nothing extra on all plans for a limited time, and that it may add usage limits later. Your plan's document limits still apply; the free eSign plan allows 5 sends a month, shared with sends from the app.

PandaDoc announced the server on September 16, 2025, so it has been public for more than a year.

Why people look for a PandaDoc MCP alternative

The document has to come from a template. PandaDoc's own skill files say that a document created from Markdown has no fields, so its recipient becomes a CC and it cannot be signed. If your assistant drafts a short contractor agreement in the chat, you first need a PandaDoc template with signature fields that fits it.

Per-seat pricing. Starter is $19 per seat a month billed annually ($35 monthly), and Business is $49 ($65 monthly). For one person who only needs the occasional signature, that is a lot for a connector.

The free MCP access is temporary. PandaDoc's support pages say it is free "for a limited time," so the cost of an agent-heavy workflow may change.

portant 1. Sign PDF by Portant, best for documents your assistant wrote

Hosted  ·  Email code, OAuth or API key  ·  Free plan: 30 requests a month

Sign PDF is the server we built, at https://mcp.portant.co/mcp. Hand it the Markdown your assistant drafted, a PDF, or a Google Doc link, and it typesets a PDF, adds signature and date fields, emails the signer a private link, and sends you the signed copy. No template has to exist first. It is in the Claude connector directory and the official MCP Registry, and it works in Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients.

No tool can sign: when you sign too, you sign first in your own browser. Free covers 30 requests a month with no card; Plus is $12 a month or $120 a year ($10 a month) for 300 and Scale is $39 a month or $396 a year ($33 a month) for 1,500.

Pros

  • Signs a fresh draft with no template and no field setup
  • Flat monthly price, not per seat
  • Emails and signing pages in eight languages

Cons

  • No proposal features: no pricing tables, content library or document analytics, which is where PandaDoc is much stronger
  • One signer on Free; up to five in a set order need Plus or Scale
  • Saved templates on paid plans only, and no bulk send

docusign 2. Docusign MCP, best for teams already on Docusign

Hosted  ·  Docusign OAuth  ·  Free plan: No (test sandbox only)

Docusign's server (https://mcp.docusign.com/mcp) creates and sends envelopes from templates or uploaded documents, with your own Docusign permissions. Docusign announced general availability for September 30, 2026, and lists connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Slack and Perplexity. The eSignature tools need a paid Docusign account.

Pick it over PandaDoc when your counterparties expect Docusign and legal already trusts its audit trail. Read our Docusign MCP guide for the details.

signnow 3. signNow MCP, best for signing order

Hosted  ·  signNow sign-in  ·  Free plan: No (7-day trial)

signNow's hosted server is in the Claude connector directory, and signNow announced an app in ChatGPT in March 2026. It uploads PDF, Word and image files up to 40 MB, sends invites to an ordered list of recipients, sends reminders and returns a download link. It is included with paid plans, from $8 a month billed annually.

Pick it over PandaDoc when you need several signers in a set order and do not need proposal features.

dropbox sign 4. Dropbox Sign, best for teams already on Dropbox

Hosted (beta)  ·  Dropbox OAuth  ·  Free plan: 3 requests a month

The Dropbox remote MCP server, in beta, includes Dropbox Sign tools to send for signature, check status, send reminders, cancel and download completed agreements with audit trails. It lists Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor as clients. The free Dropbox Sign plan allows 3 signature requests a month, and Essentials is $15 a month billed annually.

Pick it over PandaDoc when your contracts already live in Dropbox.

docuseal.com 5. DocuSeal, best for self-hosting

Hosted or self-hosted  ·  DocuSeal sign-in or token  ·  Free plan: 10 request emails a month

DocuSeal is open source, has a connector in the Claude directory, and exposes its own MCP endpoint when you self-host version 2.3.7 or later. Like PandaDoc, it works template first: its send tool fails if the template has no fields. API documents are $0.20 each on Pro.

Pick it over PandaDoc when documents must stay on your own servers.

signwell 6. SignWell MCP, best for template sends from Claude Desktop

Local  ·  API key  ·  Free plan: 3 documents a month

SignWell's server runs locally with an API key, and there is a Claude Desktop extension that keeps the key in your keychain. It sends documents, including from saved templates, and the documents its tools create are drafts by default, so nothing goes out until you send it. Light is $10 a month billed annually for unlimited documents.

Pick it over PandaDoc for low-cost template sends from a desktop client.

If you use PandaDoc with HubSpot

Many PandaDoc customers use it to send proposals and quotes from HubSpot deals. That job is different from asking an assistant for a signature, and Portant's main product does it: it fills your own Google Docs or Word templates with HubSpot deal data and sends them for signature from the deal. Our PandaDoc alternatives for HubSpot teams covers that comparison.

How to choose

  • If you send proposals with pricing tables, stay with PandaDoc's MCP server. It is the best of this group for that job.
  • If your assistant writes the document, use Sign PDF by Portant.
  • If your company standardized on Docusign, use the Docusign MCP server.
  • If you need signing order at a low price, use signNow.

Frequently asked questions

Does PandaDoc have an MCP server?

Yes. PandaDoc announced its hosted MCP server on September 16, 2025. It runs at mcp.pandadoc.com, with an EU server at mcp.pandadoc.eu, signs you in with OAuth, and is listed in the Claude connector directory and as an app in ChatGPT.

Is the PandaDoc MCP server free?

PandaDoc says MCP access costs nothing extra on all plans for a limited time, and that it may introduce usage limits later. Your plan's document limits still apply, and the free eSign plan allows 5 sends a month.

Can the PandaDoc MCP server sign a document my assistant wrote?

Not directly. PandaDoc's own guidance says a document created from Markdown has no fields and cannot be signed, so signable documents come from a template. Sign PDF by Portant accepts a Markdown draft and adds the signature fields itself.

Does PandaDoc work in ChatGPT?

Yes. PandaDoc has an app in ChatGPT, and its MCP setup guide includes ChatGPT. PandaDoc's developer docs mark ChatGPT support as still in progress.

What is the best free alternative to the PandaDoc MCP server?

Sign PDF by Portant is free for 30 requests a month with no credit card, and it signs documents with no template. Dropbox Sign's free plan allows 3 requests a month through the Dropbox MCP server, and DocuSeal's free cloud plan allows 10 signature request emails a month.
