Portant for AI agents
Get documents signed from your AI assistant
Connect Portant to ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code or Cursor. Ask your assistant to send a document for signature. Portant emails the signer a private link, and you get the signed PDF back.
Free for 30 documents a month. No credit card.
How it works
You ask. A person signs. The signed copy comes back.
01
Ask your assistant
Say who must sign and what. The assistant can send a PDF, a Google Doc link, or a document it writes for you, such as an NDA or a short agreement.
02
The signer signs in a browser
Portant emails the signer a private link. They read the document and sign it on any device, with no account and nothing to install.
03
You get the signed PDF
Portant emails you the signed PDF with a signing certificate page. Your assistant can also check the status and give you a link to the file.
Your assistant never signs for anyone. Every signature comes from a person, in a browser. If you sign too, you sign first, and then Portant sends the document to the other person.
Set up
Connect Portant in a minute
Portant is a remote MCP server. Add this URL to any assistant that supports MCP, then sign in with your email address. Portant sends you a one-time code; there is no password.
https://mcp.portant.co/mcp
Claude
- In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector. Enter the name Portant and the URL above.
- Click Connect, sign in with your email, and allow access.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector for the organization first.
ChatGPT
Portant is not in the ChatGPT app directory yet. When it is listed, you can connect it from Apps in ChatGPT settings, and sign in with your email.
Until then, you can add the URL above as a custom app in ChatGPT developer mode, if your plan includes it.
Claude Code
Add the server, then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Authenticate to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http portant https://mcp.portant.co/mcp
Or use an API key from mcp.portant.co/keys:
claude mcp add --transport http portant https://mcp.portant.co/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
Cursor and other MCP clients
Add Portant to your MCP configuration file (for Cursor, ~/.cursor/mcp.json). Clients that support OAuth can leave out the header and sign in instead.

Try it with no account
Use this URL to send a document with no sign-in. Before anything goes to the signer, Portant emails you to review the document and confirm. After you confirm, Portant makes your free account.

What you can ask
Things to try
“Send this NDA to ana@example.com to sign.”
“Write a one-page freelance agreement for my project with Sam Lee, and get us both to sign it.”
“Get this Google Doc signed by our new contractor, in Spanish.”
“Has Ana signed yet? Download the signed copy.”
The tools your assistant gets
- Send a document for signature. From markdown text, a PDF, or a Google Doc shared with anyone who has the link.
- Check signature status. Waiting for you, waiting for the signer, signed, cancelled or expired.
- Get the signed PDF. A private link to open and download it, with the signing certificate page.
- Get a PDF upload URL. For large files, from tools that can run commands.
- Cancel a signature request. The signing link stops working.
Privacy and security
What Portant does with your document
- Portant reads the document once, in memory, to make the PDF. It then encrypts the PDF, and stores only the encrypted file.
- The key that opens the document is in the private signing link, not on our servers. Your assistant keeps a copy of it to download the signed PDF.
- Signing links stop working after 14 days, and Portant deletes the stored files automatically.
- Portant does not use your documents to train AI models.
- Your assistant cannot sign for anyone, and it cannot see other people’s documents.

For developers
The same tools as a REST API
Send Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY with each request. With no key, a request needs sender.email, and Portant emails the sender to confirm first. The full reference is in the OpenAPI file.

A document is one of markdown, pdf_url, pdf_base64, google_doc_url or upload_id. Keep the request_token from the answer, and send it as the X-Request-Token header to check, download or cancel. It is the only way to download the signed PDF. For a large PDF, get an upload URL first and PUT the file to it.
Frequently asked questions
Under the ESIGN Act and UETA in the US and eIDAS in the EU, a signature cannot be refused legal effect only because it is electronic. Portant signatures are simple electronic signatures (SES), which cover most business agreements. Some documents, such as wills or certain court and family law documents, still need a handwritten or qualified signature.
No. No tool can sign. When you must sign too, Portant emails you a link first, you sign in your browser, and then Portant sends the document to the other person.
No. The signer opens the private link from the email, types their name and email address, and signs in the browser. The email comes from Portant, and replies go to you.
When your assistant writes the document, it puts the signature and date fields where they belong. For a PDF or a Google Doc, it can give the field positions. If it gives none, Portant adds a signature page at the end.
No. This is a separate service for one-off documents from your assistant, with its own sign-in and its own free plan. To make documents from HubSpot, Google Sheets or Google Forms and send them for signature automatically, use the Portant app.
