Contract Template
You can create contract templates automatically from Google Sheets in a few easy steps. It is simple to use Portant as a free contract template which contains all kinds of different elements including your logo, unique contract numbers, payment terms and contact information. After you've opened Portant Workflow, select your Google Sheet, then connect a Google Docs contract template, customise your contract template with column tags, attach it to an email and finally click 'Start automation', and voila!, you’ve automated your contract process from Google Sheets!
We know how painful and monotonous it can be to copy and paste data into contract templates, double check all the information is correct, save it as a pdf and then send the contract to your customers. That’s why we’ve come to the rescue.
With Portant, you can connect a Google Sheet to a contract template, click a few buttons and contracts will be magically generated and sent whenever you need to. You can also customise the email and who it's sent from (e.g accounts@portant.co). It's easy to place your contracts on autopilot.

Make your documents more accurate
Manual document creation leads to errors, from wrong names to outdated figures. Portant maps data fields directly to your template, eliminating typos and ensuring every document is accurate and consistent. Your team sends fewer corrections and your clients get the right information every time.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, a contract template can be legally binding as long as it includes the necessary elements of a contract: offer, acceptance, consideration, and mutuality. When drafting legal contracts or legal agreements, these terms and conditions help ensure a legally binding agreement between the parties involved. It's important to verify that the governing law aligns with local laws to ensure the contract’s enforceability. Once all parties sign the customized legal document, it becomes a legally enforceable contract that outlines the agreed payment details and intellectual property rights if applicable.
Using a contract template is generally more cost-effective and quicker than hiring a lawyer to draft a contract from scratch. However, a lawyer can provide a level of legal expertise and advice that a template cannot. For straightforward agreements like rental agreements, partnership agreements, or employment contracts, a free business contract template might suffice. Still, for more complex or high-stakes contracts involving independent contractors, service providers, or specific contracts that require extra legal precision, it’s best to seek legal advice to protect intellectual property and ensure the contract covers all legal requirements.
To ensure your contract agreement or service agreement is up-to-date, regularly check for updates from the provider, review it against current local laws, and consider having it reviewed by a legal professional. You should also ensure that the payment terms, employment terms, and intellectual property rights reflect the latest legal protections in your region. This is particularly important if the template was created several years ago, or if there have been recent legal changes affecting your business partners or industry. Utilizing contract management software is one way to stay on top of these changes.
Yes, electronic signatures are legally valid on contract templates and business contracts in many jurisdictions, provided they meet certain criteria set out by laws such as the E-SIGN Act in the United States or the eIDAS Regulation in the European Union. Electronic signatures must be attached to or logically associated with the contract and be capable of identifying the parties involved to be legally binding. If you're managing rental agreements, partnership agreements, or independent contractor agreements, make sure your electronic signatures comply with the applicable jurisdiction and local laws.
Customizing a contract template involves adjusting the contract’s clauses to reflect the specific services or payment terms of your business arrangement. This can include modifying employment terms, defining the scope of work, adding intellectual property or ownership rights, and removing any irrelevant sections like those found in standard form contracts. For example, if you're creating a rental agreement, you may need to include specific terms related to rent or payment schedules, while for a service agreement with an independent contractor, you’d focus on compensation, job description, and legal protections for both parties involved.
For small businesses, using contract templates like service agreements, employment contracts, or rental agreements offers numerous benefits, including saving time and money, ensuring consistency in agreements, and reducing the risk of overlooking important legal clauses. Free contract templates allow small businesses to quickly generate legally binding agreements for specific contracts that meet local laws and legal requirements, without the need for extensive legal support each time a contract is required. This can be especially helpful for businesses managing multiple independent contractor agreements or partnership agreements.
Managing multiple contract templates can be streamlined by using contract management software, which allows you to store, organize, and track all your templates in one place. These tools often include features for version control, template customization, and automated reminders for contract renewals or updates, ensuring that your employment contracts, partnership agreements, or service agreements are always up-to-date and easily accessible. The ability to integrate tools that manage legal documents and business contracts also helps to standardize your processes across various services and agreements.
A contract template is a customizable document that provides a framework for creating contracts, allowing users to adapt it to their specific needs. For example, an independent contractor agreement or lease agreement can be personalized with specific legal protections, intellectual property clauses, or payment details. In contrast, a standard form contract is typically pre-filled with terms that are non-negotiable and used in routine transactions, such as those provided by insurance companies or utility providers. While standard contracts may suffice for simple deals, a tailored contract template ensures better protection for business partners and parties involved.
